Why not start 2018 on a high note by taking a trip with your friends or family? In our search for the best New Year’s destinations around the world, we’ve polled our Travel Experts to find which spots come recommended. Have a look at our top five spots to bring in the New Year.
Are you surprised? There’s a reason why an estimated one million people flock to Times Square to view the famous ball drop when the clock strikes midnight. If you’re looking for a huge party with big-name headliners, Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve brings out the hottest performers and celebrities to rock the night away! Why watch on TV when you can experience the incredible atmosphere yourself? Our Travel Experts recommend getting their early to get the best view, and remember – if you leave your spot, you lose it, so be prepared to camp out for a few hours!
Broadway shows continue to run even on December 31 and January 1, and iconic destinations including the Statue of Liberty and the Empire State Building continue to run as normal. Other holiday activities exclusive to this time of year include the Rink at Rock Centre by the Rockefeller Centre, and the Radio City Christmas Spectacular which runs until December 31.
Take the whole family to Orlando, Florida and celebrate the New Year with your favourite Disney characters and a night fit for a king (or Disney Princess)! As long as your kids are old enough to stay up past midnight, we can almost guarantee they’ll enjoy spending it at Disney World and will be talking about it for years to come. We recommend Epcot for New Year’s due to the incredible fireworks show emanating right from the middle of the lake!
It’s a great idea to get there early and plan to spend the full day at the park, as once the park reaches capacity they will stop accepting visitors. You’ll have all day to explore the park at your leisure and catch attractions like the Frozen Adventure, the World Showcase, and a Finding Nemo underwater exhibit. We also recommend making reservations for your meals on New Year’s Eve, so you can ensure you won’t miss out on the incredible food and special NYE offerings! Enjoy a walk through the park to catch the live music, light shows, and of course, the epic fireworks part of the countdown to the New Year! Exhibits are open late so the family fun can spill right into 2018, long enough to tucker the kids out and ensure a restful start to the New Year.
Las Vegas has made huge strides as a family-friendly destination great for more than just singles and couples. However, it’s no secret that Las Vegas knows a thing or two about a good party, and if you and your friends or significant other are looking to party like it’s 1999, here’s your ticket. Craft your own lavish night filled with live entertainment, casinos, incredible food, and cap it all off with a giant block party. That’s right, the famous Las Vegas Strip shuts down to traffic, and partiers spill out onto the street to take in a choreographed roof-top fireworks display put on by the casinos. We’re talking about Las Vegas here so you know the party won’t stop at midnight and the after-parties will be plentiful!
We recommend staying at a hotel on the Strip to be in the heart of the action. As with most New Year’s Eve plans, we advise you book accommodations and any event tickets early as the best options can sell out!
If you’ve been on an all inclusive vacation, you know that many resorts offer incredible food, drinks, and entertainment on a year-round basis. Most all inclusive resorts in the south kick it up a notch and offer special New Year’s programming catered either to families, or at 18+ resorts, to the party crowd! There really isn’t a less stressful way to ring in the New Year – you won’t need to plan any parties, shop for food and drink, and in many cases, tickets are not necessary. With many resorts offering 24 hour service, you can truly keep the party going as long as you see fit, plus you can get a snack when the midnight munchies hit!
We recommend booking soon as the resorts will fill up quickly. All throughout the Caribbean there are tons of options catering to families, groups, singles, or couples. For families, we recommend Punta Cana, Cayo Coco, and Costa Rica. Options for couples exist all over but popular choices include Riviera Maya, St. Lucia, and Jamaica!
If you haven’t yet seen the City of Lights, experiencing Paris on New Year’s Eve will be truly special, particularly with a loved one. Cruise down the Seine River through the heart of Paris with a glass of authentic Champagne in hand, or seek out an amazing NYE specialty menu in one of the incredible restaurants through the city. For a night on the go, you could grab a bite to eat and then watch watch the dazzling lights on the Eiffel Tower. Visitors also flock to the Champs-Elysées, which is shut down to traffic, to take in the sights and sounds and surround themselves with cheer. Paris on New Year’s Eve is the ultimate romantic getaway!
As winter is not the high season for travel to Paris, flights tend to be less expensive so book early to take advantage! Our experts recommend a hotel near the Seine for easy access to the Champs-Elysées and the Eiffel Tower.
