Are you the type who always dreams of running into a celebrity on vacation? Or do you just want to treat yourself to a week of luxury in vacation spots fit for the stars? We’ve done some digging to find the Caribbean hotspots loved by celebrities and regular folk alike so you can jet away and mingle with the stars.
Apparently if you’re a celebrity looking to buy your own island, Bahamas is the place to do it. Bahamas boasts over 700 islands and cays, which are basically small islands begging to be turned into private vacation homes. Celebs who are reported to own their own Bahamian islands include Johnny Depp, Faith Hill, David Copperfield, and Eddie Murphy, most of whom regularly rent or otherwise lend the facilities to their celebrity friends.
Not sure if Johnny Depp will lend you the use of his private island for your next week away? Here’s two great options nearby we recommend:
Bermuda is a super convenient option for North Americans on the east coast as it’s less than 3 hours flight from Toronto. Us regular folk aren’t the only ones who appreciate the convenience, which is evident from the amount of celebrities who own properties or frequently vacation on the island. Regulars include John Travolta, Samuel L. Jackson, Alicia Keys, Rod Stewart, and Danny Glover. Catherine Zeta-Jones and Michael Douglas even own a home in Bermuda that they supposedly rent out for $28,000 a month.
Can’t foot that bill? Here’s a few more reasonably-priced options in Bermuda:
Jamaica is one of our top destinations and it looks like the stars love it too. Who can resist the laid-back Jamaican lifestyle? Beyonce and Jay-Z jetted away to the island recently and shared photos of their daughter enjoying the beach like any other toddler would. One celebrity hotspot is the Round Hill Hotel and Villas, where you can find the likes of Ewan McGregor, Lance Armstrong, Paul McCartney, and Jude Law.
Whether you can shack up next door to the stars or prefer something at a lower price point, Jamaica offers a ton of options:
Celebrities love Nevis because of how secluded and mellow the island is. You won’t find the crowds here, but you will find amazing food, gorgeous beaches, and luxury resorts fit for royalty. Maybe that’s why Princess Diana vacationed here in the early 90s with her two young children, and was credited with helping put Nevis on the map. The Four Season Resort in Nevis is a popular choice among the rich and the famous, so choose this resort and you might find yourself running into the likes of Oprah, Kelly Ripa, or Jimmy Buffett.
Can you see yourself sipping a margarita on the beach alongside Mr. Buffett? Here’s what we recommend in Nevis:
Turks and Caicos is a British territory with pristine turquoise water and a population of only 30,000 full-time residents — a combination that makes for a perfect celebrity hideaway. Recently on her honeymoon, Modern Family star Sofia Vergara shared jaw-dropping picture of the island during her stay at swanky resort Parrot Cay. Bruce Willis and Keith Richards are also reported to frequent this same resort, so you know it must be good!
We’re happy to report more affordable options for the everyday person are available on Turks and Caicos so you don’t have to spend your life savings on a week away:
Whether they’re native to Barbados or not, celebrities flock to the quaint island just north of South America. One of its most famous inhabitants is Rihanna, who prefers to visit the south of the island where she was born and raised. You might not run into Rihanna on the beach, but if you head north to Six Men’s Bay near Speightstown and drop by the Sandy Lane Resort, you might run into Simon Cowell, Mark Wahlberg, Gwyneth Paltrow, or David and Victoria Beckham. Tell them we said hi!
Rihanna’s own Bridgetown is a full of fantastic resorts – here’s two we recommend:
